Preparing for Bufo

Bufo, also known as 5-MeO-DMT,” is the most powerful psychedelic on earth and comes a secretion extracted from the Sonoran Desert Toad. Indigenous communities in Mexico have been incorporating this secretion into ceremonial practices and rituals for centuries because of its ability to facilitate profound spiritual experiences, visionary insights, and a connection to the divine. In these settings, the toad is often considered a messenger between realms, offering a unique pathway to commune with the sacred and gain wisdom from the natural world.

The Science:

Bufo Alvarius contains 5-MeO-DMT, a potent psychedelic compound found naturally in the secretions of toad. The secretion is burned, vaporised and induces a short but intense psychedelic experience with hallucinogenic effects that are significantly stronger than those induced by DMT (the primary psychoactive molecule found in Ayahuasca). Despite this, the difference between 5-MeO-DMT and DMT is just a single Methoxy group, and it is structurally similar to other psychedelic drugs such as psilocybin and DMT.

5-MeO-DMT is also present in some other plants, trees, and shrubs, use of 5-MeO-DMT as a psychedelic drug has been traced back some 3000 years in the form of crushed seeds known as ‘Yopo’, which are still used in spiritual ceremonies in Venezuela, Columbia, and Brazil. 5-MeO-DMT was first synthesised in 1936 by chemists Toshio Hoshino and Kenya Shimodaira and identified as an active component of Amazonian snuffs in 1959.

The Experience:

The secretion is burned, vaporised and inhaled and takes immediate effect. The experience lasts between 20minutes and an hour so is comparatively short to that of Ayahuasca. Bufo is renowned for inducing intense and fleeting psychedelic experiences, often described as "breakthroughs." These encounters can lead to a profound sense of unity, ego dissolution, and a connection to the cosmos. It is particularly beneficial for those with difficulty lettting go, issues with control, surrender and addictions.

Preparation Tips:

Journeying with Bufo requires careful preparation. Consider these tips before your experience:

  1. Equip yourself with knowledge about the substance, its effects, and potential outcomes. Understanding what to expect can help you navigate the experience more confidently.

  2. Allow yourself to fully surrender to the experience without expectations of what is to come.

  3. Reflect on your intentions for the journey. What do you hope to gain or learn? Setting clear intentions can guide your experience and bring purpose to your journey.

  4. Plan for integration after your experience. Journaling, meditation, or discussing your insights with our facilitators can help solidify the lessons learned and integrate them into your daily life.
